A House That Works Well

Because of the elegant blend of wood and stone, the building reminds one of a mountain lodge in Colorado. Spacious rooms are well laid out, and attention to details are evident even from first glance.

Entering through the front door one steps into a well-illuminated, open area with cathedral ceiling and large windows that display the verdant surroundings beautifully. One’s eyes are involuntarily drawn up to the center stone column and atom-like iron chandelier. This large room naturally divides into living, dining and kitchen. The living area features a large wood-burning fireplace. A generously sized kitchen functions well, even with several people working simultaneously. Wooden cabinets provide adequate and practical storage, with exquisite granite counter tops offering durable and liberal surface areas. A partiality-covered terrace, ideal for entertaining large groups, is accessible directly from this room through glass sliding doors.

A grand staircase leading up to the second level divides in two directions with one side leading to an open loft that can be used as a family room, office, or additional sleeping area, and adjoining guest bedroom with en suite bathroom. The other half of the stairway leads to another guest bedroom, and a full bathroom.

From this area there are two stairways leading to the third level. On one side is another guest bedroom with balcony, and access to an open terrace with adjacent laundry room. The views of the valley from here are spectacular! The master bedroom suite is situated off this terrace as well, with its own stairway access from the second level. It features a walk-in closet, bathroom with deep soak tub, fireplace, and small private terrace with outdoor shower.

This one of a kind property is situated at the edge of a natural forest, providing close-up encounters with a variety of birds year round, and creates a peaceful ambiance. The well-established garden includes a naturally-fed fish pond, terraced lawns and fruit bearing trees. Trails lead up to various cement benches and more breathtaking views.

The structure is solid stone walls built on a ft wide foundation. Built-in custom made furniture, railings, stairways, and doors are hand-crafted from beautiful Guatemalan hard wood, some from trees felled on the property. All window frames are cypress wood and screened in where open.
